New Reduced Railway Interswitching Rates Published in Canada Gazette Part II
The federal Government has approved the new reduced interswitching rates under the Canada Transportation Act, Section 128(1)(b). Reductions are between apprxoimately 10% and 20%.
The new rates were published today, October 6, 2004, in Canada Gazette Part II and take effect 30 days after October 6, i.e., November 5, 2004.

The first table in the extract lists the new rates. The second table is from the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement and shows the decreases from the old rates to the new rates. As noted in the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement, the average decrease pre car for blocks of less than 60 cars is 13.0% while the average per car decrease for blocks of 60 or more cars is 16.7%.
