New Canada-U.S-Mexico Online Transportation Database Launched

Transport Canada, along with the governments of the United States and Mexico, has launched a new trilateral website that provides important statistical data on North American transportation and trade.

The online North American Transportation Statistics (NATS) Database provides comprehensive and comparable statistical information on transportation in Canada, Mexico and the United States, and includes 31 data tables, supported by extensive technical documentation. A wide variety of transportation subjects are covered, including: transportation and the economy; safety; merchandise trade; passenger travel; infrastructure; and transportation and energy.

The project was developed under the tri-national partnership framework of the North American Transportation Statistics Interchange. Transport Canada partnered with Statistics Canada, the Secretaría de Communicaciones y Transportes, the Instituto Mexicano del Transporte and the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática in Mexico and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau in the United States.

Available in English, French, and Spanish, the NATS Database can be found at http://nats.inegi.gob.mx/nats/default.asp?i=i

A detailed Backgrounder outlining the Canadian aspects of the site can be found at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/mediaroom/backgrounders/b04-MM008e.htm
