CPR suggests access for shippers on privatized BC Rail
In an article appearing in the Prince George Citizen on May 14, Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Vice-President of Strategy and Law, Marcella Szel, said that CPR is interested in any proposal the BC Rail Liberal government has to offer on BC Rail, but says the line is a "tricky" property since it is locked to Canadian National Railways through its connections at Prince George and North Vancouver. "That's very unusual for a property to be locked at both ends by a single railroad", Ms. Szel said. "So the issues of gateways, connections and access - whether it's market access or rate access - is very critical in our view to effective competition for the shippers on the line, development of the line and to efficiencies." CPR officials met with municipal and business leaders along the rail line last month to discuss the future of BC Rail and and company's interest.
