New Minister of Transport Appointed by Ontario Premier Ernie Eves

Ontario Premier, Ernie Eves, today announced the appointment of a new Minister of Transport, as well as other changes to his cabinet.

Frank Klees is appointed to the Ministry of Transport, replacing Norm Sterling, who has been named Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Native Affairs.

Mr. Klees was elected to the Ontario Legislature in June 1995 to represent the riding of York Mackenzie and was re-elected in June 1999 as MPP for the new riding of Oak Ridges.

Mr. Klees is a member of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization and SuperBuild and the Cabinet Committee on Economic and Resource Policy.

In 1999, Mr. Klees was appointed to Cabinet as Minister without Portfolio, with additional responsibilities as Chief Government Whip and Deputy House Leader. In 2001, he was given further responsibilities when he was appointed to both the Management Board of Cabinet and the Board of Internal Economy.

He has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Community and Social Services.

Also appointed today were:

  • David Young, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Ernie Hardeman, Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Rural Affairs, and,
  • Brian Coburn, Minister of Tourism and Recreation.
