ARRC Launches New Website
OTTAWA - The Association of Regional Railways of Canada (ARRC) has launched its new website at www.arrc.ca. The new website http://www.arrrc.ca will provide much needed information on the important issues facing the short line and regional railway industry in Canada", said Bob Ballantyne, President of ARRC.
The new website provides information about the industry, ARRC, its members, and management team. It also talks about the key challenges facing Canada’s small railways such as viability, infrastructure funding, public interest issues, environment, safety and security, and public policy. The website is a platform that will enable the Association’s to disseminate its insights and positions on these issues and to provide factual information on the industry.
"ARRC is working closely and cooperatively with federal and provincial government officials to assist them in putting a legislative and regulatory framework in place that will allow the short line and regional railways to play an increasingly important role within the Canadian transportation network by giving shippers, particularly in rural communities, a choice in moving their goods efficiently, effectively and safely", said Mr. Ballantyne.
ARRC was created in September 2001 to promote the interests of the short line and regional railways in Canada. The founding members of ARRC are BC Rail, The Hudson Bay Railway, The Carlton Trail Railway, and Ferroequus Railway Company Limited. In 2000, ARRC members produced over 5 billion revenue-ton-miles, had revenues of approximately $450 million, operated 4,067 route-kilometres of track, and employed approximately 2,000 people.
Membership in ARRC is open to all short line and regional railways in Canada (both passenger and freight). Information on membership is available on the website at www.arrc.ca.
